Disney Completes Buy Out Of LucasFilms

As of recently The Walt Disney Company has completed the buy out of LucasFilms. Disney has agreed to purchase all of the rights to LucasFilms for an astonishing $4.04 billion. With this acquistion, The Walt Disney Company will have complete ownership to any of LucasFilm's annexes, including Star Wars and LucasArts, the gaming subdivision of the company. With this hefty purchase now under their belt, Disney already plans to release a Star Wars trilogy of it's own, with episode 7 of the series slated make its big screen debut sometime in 2015. CEO and Chairman of LucasFilms, George Lucas, will still be on board for the trilogy as the creative director of the films, giving life long followers of the movie something to remain excited about. This is by far the priciest investment that Disney has taken part in, other purchases include the likes of other media powerhouses such as ESPN, ABC, and Pixar. Below is a statement by George Lucas that the media has released about the situation:

“For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” George Lucas, the chairman and CEO of Lucasfilm, said in a statement. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come. Disney’s reach and experience give Lucasfilm the opportunity to blaze new trails in film, television, interactive media, theme parks, live entertainment, and consumer products.”
