Jaden Smith has had a long-lasting influence on pop culture as he has cultivated a new mindset and style. Being the son of high-profile celebrities, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, the icon has had impactful guidance throughout his life to make him who he is today. Born in Malibu, California, Jaden was a star since he was young. Initially pursuing an acting career, he starred in major motion pictures including The Pursuit of Happyness, The Karate Kid, and The Day the Earth Stood Still. It was clear that he had talent and could utilize this in many directions. After a while, he put his acting career on hold and explored a new venture which led to music. In 2014, Jaden pursued this passion and released his debut album Syre. The namesake had a great response which led to more albums and concerts. He would also pair up with his sister, Willow Smith, and perform on stages worldwide. Over time he would find himself balancing both music and acting. Most recently, you can find him starring in Netflix Originals including The Get Down. He has a large backing as many of his friends are immensely prominent: Justin Bieber, Childish Gambino, Kid Cudi, and Kendall Jenner are just some of the most popular names. 

But what makes him more prominent within his scene is his eccentric style. When searching for pictures of Smith, it is quite apparent that he does what he wants and wears fashion he enjoys. Many make reference to his aesthetic as it has become increasingly popular with time. The streetwear and high-fashion combination is perfectly executed within each of Smith’s outfits, so when New Balance sparked the relationship in 2019 everyone knew that their collaborative sneakers would be one of a kind. New Balance continues to push the limits when it comes to exclusive partnerships as they have teamed up with a wide range of notable names: Junya Watanabe, Kawhi Leonard, and Casablanca to name a few. When New Balance extended its efforts to Jaden it was an instant success. When they released their first project in the summer of 2020, the feedback was incredibly positive and Jaden would continue to produce more silhouettes with them which would eventually receive the same exact hype. The latest release includes a reimagined Vision Racer which takes into account sustainability as it celebrates Earth Day 2021. 

Throughout his life, Jaden Smith has continuously been an advocate for sustainable practices and in the latest Vision Racer ReWorked, we can see new practices and constructions introduced within the silhouette. In comparison to previous models like the ‘Wavy White’ and ‘Hi-Vis Yellow,’ the new sneaker is composed with primarily SPINNEX fiber and recycled polyester for its distinct fabric upper. White synthetic leather overlays contrast the grey while colorful speckles add a twist to the monochromatic design. The shoe portrays a chunky aesthetic with a large block rubber outsole; these exaggerated effects contribute to the platform design. Printed upon the bottom, we see the same familiar speckles and translucent rubber with the phrase “DO YOU SEE IT YET?” Typically, the signature Vision Racer branding would be seen here but instead, we find an abstract phrase that truly speaks to Jaden Smith’s unconventional style. This sneaker will be released on April 22nd, the same day as Earth Day but it is also rumored that the duo will meet again in a future collaboration this summer during the month of June. With no released information on which shoe it will be, we anticipate it will be just as exclusive as this one.
