The Past Reimagined in NEEDLES’ FW2020 Collection

Japanese designer Keizo Shimizu is all-too-familiar with skillfully creating garments. Under the parent brand Nepenthes, Needles is the brainchild of Shimizu. He founded the Needles brand with admiration for American fashion. Being fond of the way American clothes “looked so free,” he molded this ideology of loose-fitting clothing into the brand. Fashion enthusiasts may synonymize the brand with their popular tracksuits and their 7-cut flannels. Looking to Needles FW2020 collection, the collection adheres to the brand’s vision with an assortment of loose garments, vintage-styled pieces, tracksuits, and an array of patterns. Needles is also often broken down into two sub-brands: Needles Sportswear & Rebuild by Needles.

Needles’ FW2020 collection draws inspiration from the ’60s and ‘70s this time around. There's also nods to the '90s. There’s plenty of loose garments that create an emphasis on bold-patterns and vintage styling. Keizo Shimizu’s reimagination of American clothing is justified by this collection.

Amazing looks in this collection come courtesy of their tracksuits, the R.C. Velour Trackjacket, and Pants, specifically. The suit is designed with a lush, velvety, velour upper. The deep-colored, vibrant woven patterns and on the sleeves are almost reminiscent of wine and creates a juxtaposition of two gorgeous tones. Iterations of the famed 7-cut flannel shirt also make a return. The Red and Multi-colored shirt display a spectrum of colors and patterns that come together for the attractive final product. If red isn’t your color, the 7-cut flannel comes in Orange/Grey, White/Stone, and Cyan/Black. Let’s be honest here, with a palette of colors on each shirt, each colorway radiates.
