Maison Margiela has had an eventful start to the year as they have been curating footwear designs with the legendary athletics brand, Reebok. Since 1988, Maison Margiela has become a prevalent Parisian fashion house as they reimagine ready-to-wear staples for a more sophisticated and elevated finish. With this aesthetic in mind, the Parisian label is now fusing with Reebok for a unique collection of footwear. Just recently they released their reimagined Tabi sneaker which completely turned heads in fashion society. But now, entering into the spring season, they are continuing the monochromatic theme and released a variant of the beloved Club C sneaker. The classic design is rendered to fit Maison Margiela’s overall aesthetic and to accomplish this theme, they revert to one of the most popular collections for inspiration. 

In 1996, Maison Margiela’s spring/summer collection took on a theme called, ‘trompe-l’oeil.’ This is an artistic technique that changes the perception of a painting and makes it three-dimensional. This optical illusion gave the clothing a distinct style that stood out from the crowd. Knowing its impact during that year, they bring back the theme and let the Club C model champion the effect. The singular Nappa leather base is detailed with what you think are raised stitches and shadows but in actuality, they are graphics that emulate the design. This elevates the shoe completely and also offers a sense of nostalgia to the brands as they highlight a groundbreaking style trend. In order to combine function and fashion, they construct the sneaker with signature accents including an EVA cushion that is protected by a rubber outsole. In addition, Reebok and Margiela’s signature branding is implemented within the shoe commemorating the partnership. 

The release includes two colorways Black and White which both follow the monochromatic theme. This styling is highly sought-after as it utilizes distinct Reebok styles with elevated touches.
