Many plans were pushed aside during 2020, but as we enter the new year many brands are presenting their latest collections created during the lockdown. For Undercover’s Jun Takahashi, he used that time to really understand his artistic capabilities and questioned the work ethics of the world. Due to the life-changing experience that followed the pandemic, Takahashi had a lot of time on his hands providing a quick turnaround time when it came to the design of this collection. By April, Takahashi was ready to showcase his newly developed collection. Typically all of Undercover’s designs would take place and be created within the offices but this is officially Takahashi’s first-ever collection created in a place other than Undercover’s home base. Titled ‘2020’ the collection explores bold and monochromatic patterns while playing with varying textures. 

One of the most unique attributes that came with this collection is the 3D modeling used to showcase all of the designs. Each outfit was modeled and turned into a digital version that can be seen by anyone, all around the world. This was the safest option since many shows and large gatherings were put on hold. The digital LookBook showcased the new garments providing a 360 view of each model. Those who experienced the digital 42-look collection referred it to a video game. The main game that kept coming up was Grand Theft Auto as the models resemble characters due to the similar rendering. 

The collection introduces a variant of the traditional joggers known as the Shag Pants. These trousers are unique and contemporary as they resemble artificial grass. Made with premium polyester the pants are soft to the touch and provide a dimensional texture - a unique take on a leisurely design. Ribbed knit cuffs and waistband decorate the piece providing smooth trimmings while adjustable drawstrings are hidden within the inner for a seamless look. Along with the flush pockets, we find dual pockets on the rear side with button closures. Its tapered design is the perfect addition to any outfit as it provides a contemporary finish. In continuation with the comfortable designs, Undercover introduces the Grunge Knit Cardigan. Its vibrant color sits nicely on the polyester base. The common trend of distressed and grunge aesthetics finds its way within the cardigan adding a worn-in detail. Fit for an oversized finish, the cardigan comes complete with traditional button closures and flush knitted pockets. 

Lastly, the brand also put fourths more elevated designs alongside its ready-to-wear staples. For example, the Beret Man Shirt can be easily paired with dress pants for a night out on the town. A mixture of blue and white provides a neutral color palette while subtle buttons are utilized for its closure. The premium cotton construction provides a soft touch during times of wear. A pressed collar and minimal pocket design completes the Beret Man’s design. Undercover provides closet staples that can be transformed for any occasion. Takahashi’s Japanese background contributes to the uncommon stylings as many fashion labels like to push the boundaries when it comes to ready-to-wear and sophisticated statement pieces.
