The Comme des Garçons name has grown exponentially since its initial founding in 1969. With Rei Kawakubo as its mind, the label now paves the way in many categories. Ever since she debuted her collections during Paris Fashion Week in 1981, many realized that there was something incredibly special about Kawakubo’s style. She is unapologetic and doesn’t conform to anyone but herself. This outlook made the fashion label powerful, making the public crave more from Kawakubo. Comme des Garçons has remained independent and fully ran by Rei and her strategically chosen staff. Because it remains a private company, an umbrella of sub-labels could be easily developed under the Comme des Garçon name. 

The Tricot label came to fruition in 1981; after this, a snowball effect began and the sub-labels will develop over time. One of the most dominating labels Kawakubo developed is the Comme des Garçons SHIRT line. During its debut in 1988, we were met with a collection of whimsical button-downs which then led to ready-to-wear closet staples and accessories. It has now become one of the most anticipated and popular lines within the CDG umbrella. 

This spring, the fashion label is focused on casual pieces that can be easily transformed depending on the occasion. Comme des Garçons SHIRT includes a combination of vibrant pieces with monochromatic colorways that can fit all styles. Utilizing the highest quality cotton, a wide range of long sleeves and tees champion the classic branding. Printed upon the chest we see the familiar name in a modern font. The minimal text is contrasted by the distinct color of the base. Colors including yellow, blue, and green contribute a sense of spring perfect for the upcoming warm weather. But if you prefer more of a subtle hue then grey, black, and white options are also available. Each piece is detailed with a ribbed knit crewneck and seamless edges harping on its premium factor.
