Just Restocked: Comme des Garçons PLAY Apparel
Haven Neiman
Japanese fashion label Comme des Garçons was first brought onto the fashion scene in 1973 by Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo. The brand arrived already questioning the fashion movement’s traditional female clothing offerings, and has continued to challenge the status quo by making clothing styles that were elevated, comfortable, and functional. Comme des Garçons translates to ‘like boys’ in French, and has since seeped into other lines: Comme des Garçons Noir, Comme des Garçons Homme Plus, Comme des Garçons SHIRT, and most notably, Comme des Garçons PLAY.
Rei Kawakubo introduced the sub-label Comme des Garçons PLAY in 2002 as a sub-label to the premium luxury label Comme des Garçons. Comme des Garçons PLAY is a more functional version of the primary elevated line, as it takes on an elevated yet casual aesthetic, all while incorporating traditional wardrobe essentials. The sub-label is made up of long sleeve tees, crewnecks, hoodies, and more. Comme des Garçons PLAY is highly recognized for its iconic bug-eyed red heart motif that is the face of the entire line. This red heart motif is designed by artist Filip Pagowski. With that, Comme des Garçons PLAY introduces its latest apparel restock. One stand-out item is the Half Heart T-Shirt. Cut from cotton, the t-shirt features ribbed detailing at the neckline. Screen-printed graphics at the front make an impression, while the stitched bug-eyed red heart motif motif finishes the look.
Another stand-out apparel item from the latest Comme des Garçons PLAY restock is the Red Multi Logo S/S T-Shirt. The cotton-cut silhouette features ribbed detailing at the neckline for additional dimension. Screen-printed branding and graphics make an impression, while the stitched bug-eyed heart motifs are seen at the front, spotlighting the rest of the aesthetic.
