Chelsie Rendon
The long-time relationship between Converse and Comme Des Garcon PLAY begun in 2009 and has been one of the longest running relationships between any brands. The traditional sneaker designs commonly seen within Converse’s repertoire are met with the simplistic yet distinct heart motif developed by Filip Pagowski. The graphic designer has a solidified relationship with Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons, and continuously produced designs for her collections. Initially, the heart and eye motif was introduced for a previous collection and was discarded but Rei remembered the design and made it the face of the PLAY category. Brands including Supreme, Nike, Vans, and Junya Watanabe have released footwear with the Comme des Garcon but it was Converse and the PLAY category that shined the brightest. When the silhouette was displayed upon the runway with the signature heart, the future footwear collaboration would be forever changed. The partnership has endured and withstood the trends, making it a historic design.
Many enjoyed the collaborative sneaker when it was first introduced but it wasn’t until 2015 when Comme des Garcon rendered the Chuck 70 with the iconic logo. The shoe became even more prevalent within outfits around the world as it appealed to not just fashion connoisseurs but public society in general. The All-Star Chuck 70 has become a classic design within footwear that many have grown accustomed to its style. To elevate its casual demeanor the distinct logo is championed upon the canvas and will be forever embedded as one of the most iconic footwear collaborations.
To continue the legacy, the All-Star Chuck 70 Ox showcases the latest color scheme, Strawberry Pink. The light pastel hues encompass the canvas upper for a distinct look while the traditional off-white rubber toe box and outsole contrast its vibrancy. Perfect for spring, the sweet coloring pairs nicely with the legendary heart and eye motif from Comme des Garcon. Metal eyelets structure the white cotton laces which match the heel stripe for a cohesive finish. Though the color is striking, it can easily complement any style. This release won’t last on shelves as many adore the design and anticipate the latest release between the iconic duo.
