The Air Jordan brand is celebrating 30 years of the original Air Jordan 5 ‘Fire Red.’ Mimicking the original release in 1990, the Air Jordan 5 Retro ‘Fire Red’ celebrates the day Michael Jordan scored 69 points against the Cleveland Cavaliers. To celebrate “The Last Dance” docu-series, Nike SNKRS held a surprise shock drop on its debut to celebrate the G.O.A.T, Michael Jordan. The Jordan Brand is now bringing back this OG in retro form and is set to release May 2nd in a family pack.  

Air Jordan 5 originally released in 1990 in 4 original colorways; White/Black-Fire Red, Metallic, Grape and Fire Red. The Air Jordan 5 was the first silhouette in the Jordan line to show a clear rubber sole. 

The iconic Tinker Hatfield designed the silhouette taking inspiration from Jordan’s iconic style and an American World War 2 fighter plane. The design featured a 3M reflective tongue, mesh netting on the tongue and side panels. The design also featured shark-tooth shapes on the midsole to represent the fighter plane. 

In 2000, the Air Jordan 5 was first Retro-ed and were the first Air Jordan Retro in the new decade. 

The 2020 Air Jordan 5 Retro ‘Fire Red’ is identical to the original pair from 1990. The silhouette showcases the original colorway with a white leather upper with a 3M reflective silver tongue, a black midsole with ‘Fire Red’ shark teeth and additional Fire Red Jumpman detailing. Jumpman detailing can be seen on the tongue, inner liner and heel. Nike Air branding can also be seen on the insoles and features a blue-tinted icy outsole. The Air Jordan 5 Retro is releasing in a family pack with Adult ($200 USD), Grade School ($140 USD) and Toddler Sizing ($60 USD).
