Introducing Sacai: Experimental in Design And Fabrication
Marissa Villamor
Introducing our latest brand to the Feature roster, Sacai. Sacai was founded in 1999 by Chitose Abe based out in Tokyo, Japan. Abe is primarily known for working under iconic designers Junya Watanabe and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons. Since its initial launch, Sacai has established itself as an international fashion brand that is known for its innovative and experimental designs.
Sacai is easily recognized by its unexpected shapes and silhouettes. The brand focuses on using different techniques based on reinterpretations of patterns delivering distinctive elegance to their seasonal collections.
The label has collaborated with a multitude of different brands from Ugg, Vans, Birkenstock and more. Sacai is most known for its ongoing collaborations with Nike. Notable silhouettes include the Sacai x Nike Vaporwaffle. A rumored collaboration is also expected to drop in Fall 2020 with the Sacai x Nike PEG Vaporfly SP and is reported to release in three different colorways.
Sacai’s latest AW 2020 collection is inspired by the genius himself, Albert Einstein. Abe was inspired by Einstein’s quote “I believe in intuitions and inspirations. I sometimes feel that I am right. I do not know that I am.” The quote resonated with Abe to challenge herself with the Fall collection and brought a unique edge to the capsule with Einstein motifs throughout.
Aside from Albert Einstein’s inspired pieces, the collection features collaborative pieces with the iconic celebrity tattoo artist, Dr. Woo. The Sacai x Dr. Woo Bandana Print Shirt is available in two different colorways, Khaki and Light Blue. Other notable pieces seen in images above include the Sacai Sponge Sweat x MA Hoodie, the Sacai Embroidery T-Shirt and Sacai Sponge Sweat x MA Pull-over.
Sacai is now available at our Calabasas and Wynn Las Vegas locations + online. To shop the latest Autumn/Winter 2020 collection click here.
