In preparation for Air Max Day, Nike has announced the release of a special rendition of the famed Air Max 95. The design was a joint effort created between Nike and the Creative Director of Dior, Kim Jones as it reminisces the history of the 95 and Jone’s childhood memories of the footwear brand. Jones has had a historic repertoire within the fashion industry and has made cultivating strides to become the designer he is today. Because of his vast history and accomplishments, Nike will be honoring the model within the Air Max Day lineup. 

Growing up in London, Jones always had an itch for fashion. In 2002, he graduated from the fashion university, Central Saint Martins, with a focus on menswear. Since then he started working on his own brand while expanding his talents toward other projects. He has contributed his work to top-of-the-line brands such as Hugo Boss, Topman, and contributed within Kanye West’s initial clothing brand, Pastelle.  This exposure helped solidify his name within the industry eventually landing him a position as Creative Director for Alfred Dunhill in 2008. He later joined Louis Vuitton as their Style Director and after seven long years, he would obtain his current position as Creative Director of Dior Homme. His extensive background within fashion has led to styling prolific artists and celebrities including David Beckham, Bella Hadid, and Robert Pattinson. Jones’s dedication to his art makes him incredibly influential within the world of fashion. 

The Air Max 95 ‘Kim Jones’ explores a retro aesthetic with reimagined details providing a luxe aura that surrounds the shoe. Its neon colorway is a nod to the originals but also was a large impact on Kim’s early life as it reminded him of fashion within the streets of London. The special edition silhouette plays with a variety of textures including a perforated mesh upper and leather paneling. Hints of orange make their way within the eyestays and Air units providing a pop of color to the neutral and dark styling. Exclusive branding is seen upon the heel while the rubber outsole secures the famous Air bubbles. Exposed Nike Air cushioning was initially intended for running but is now implemented to many silhouettes for ultimate comfort as seen within the 95. Wired laces emphasize its security while a padded tongue and lining elevate its comfort around the ankle. 

Along with the shoes, the two also collaborated on a clothing line nicknamed, ‘Heritage’ that depicts the fine lines and contemporary stylings of Jones with neon details. Air Max Day is held on March 26th and celebrates iconic sneakers that utilize Nike’s unmistakable technology. The limited-edition Air Max 95 ‘Kim Jones’ is highly anticipated by varying communities as it highlights high fashion while emulating a sense of nostalgia.
