Adidas x Parley Collaboration Release April 15th

Adidas x Parley Collaboration Release April 15th

Chelsie Rendon

With Earth Day swiftly approaching, we’ve seen a variety of brands releasing fashion and footwear relating towards the celebratory event. One of the most eco-conscious brands that have become an activist for sustainability is Adidas. To get more involved and make a bigger impact in sustainability, they have teamed up with the environmental conservation organization, Parley for the Oceans. Since its initial launch in 2012, Parley has become a prolific source when it comes to environmental awareness. They specialize in addressing the major threats to our oceans and motivating consumers to make a change. They believe that everyone has an impact and making the change to use ecologically sensible products is a step in the right direction. Parley is huge on education as they believe it is immensely important to understand why it’s important to protect the environment and our oceans. Parley offers a wide range of tools including ocean cleanup events, seminars, and educational literacy- allowing the public to get even more involved. They continue to spread awareness and have teamed up with brands to implement this ideology in other markets. Companies including American Express, contemporary art gallery Vortic, S’Well, and Adidas have partnered up with Parley to curate sustainable projects.

When Parley and Adidas originally collaborated in 2015, they wanted to offer a sustainable option to footwear that reduces plastic and protects the ocean. Adidas has continued to champion this ideology and continues to work with Parley in new deliveries and projects. This year they continue to set out on their mission that tackles sustainability problems and practices around the globe. Both, Adidas and Parley, want to inspire those to join and take action to be a part of the solution. As Earth Day approaches, the duo has come together again to emphasize plastic waste reductions and eco-friendly options. Trail runner and athlete, Timothy Olson, was chosen as the spokesperson for the collaboration to bring awareness to the problem.

The collection includes varied renditions of the iconic Terrex Free Hiker along with the latest edition of the MyShelter jacket. The Terrex Free Hiker MK utilizes upcycled waste within its fabric for an eco-friendly approach to textiles. A Primeknit upper offers a sock-like fit that can adapt to the shape of your foot during times of wear. Adidas signature Boost cushioning is implemented within the midsole for a responsive effort that combats rough surfaces. Working in conjunction with the Boost technology, we also see Parley’s continental rubber outsole that offers an optimal grip for any terrain. The outdoor aesthetic is met with a contemporary design for a sneaker that can be worn all day. Working alongside the shoes are two apparel pieces: a t-shirt and the iconic MyShelter jacket. The garment is perfect for outdoor activities as a water repellent agent is treated within its fabric and a hands-free carrying strap can be altered to your needs. It is breathable, lightweight, and utilizes Parley’s upcycled plastic fabrication. The sought-after collaboration is set to release prior to Earth Day in hopes to raise even more awareness of the problem at hand.
