Around 2012, the NBA’s annual All-Star Weekend was known to be a weekend where some of the most sought-after basketball shoes were released. This long weekend, the world’s eyes shift towards wherever the home of the NBA All-Star Weekend is held. Although the multi-day experience is primarily known for showcasing the NBA’s best basketball talent, it has also become important worldwide. Some iconic sneakers debuted during the NBA’s All-Star Weekend, such as the Air Jordan 3 in 1988 on the feet of Michael Jordan during the free throw line dunk moment in the Dunk Contest.

Although All-Star packs are no longer a thing, join us as we look back at our three favorite All-Star sneaker packs in NBA All-Star Weekend history.

2012 ‘Galaxy’ Pack

Inspired by the nearby Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the 2012 ‘Galaxy’ Pack consisted of a galaxy-inspired Kobe 7, KD 4, and LeBron 9. Kevin Durant’s KD 4 was inspired by a notable Oklahoma astronaut who nodded to Durant’s 2010 H.O.R.S.E. championship. As for the LeBron 9, this sneaker took on a spacesuit-inspired orange colorway. Finally, the Kobe 7 arrived with a telescopic graphic throughout the upper, along with the late Black Mamba’s mission patch spotlighting a snake.

2014 ‘NOLA Gumbo League’ Pack

In 2014, the NBA hosted the annual All-Star Weekend in New Orleans, Louisiana. This inspired the introduction of the Nike Basketball ‘NOLA Gumbo League’ Pack. The city’s food staple inspired this collection and incorporated three silhouettes: Nike LeBron 11 ‘Gator King,’ Kobe 9 Elite ‘Maestro,’ and the Nike KD 6 ‘Illusion.’ LeBron’s shoe symbolizes the alligator, a significant component of the New Orleans culture. The Kobe 9 Elite ‘Maestro’ paid tribute to the legendary basketballer’s birthplace, New Orleans, by utilizing details that highlight some of the city’s most excellent musicians. As for the KD 6, this unique design emulated Durant’s fluidity on the court with its hand-drawn patterns and glow-in-the-dark components.

2016 ‘Royalty Collection’ Pack

Our final favorite Nike Basketball All-Star Sneaker Pack ends with the year 2016. 2016 made an impression as the NBA All-Star Game made its way overseas for the first time in All-Star history. The 2016 NBA All-Star Game was held in Toronto, Canada, and the ‘Royalty Collection’ Pack took on an overall ‘regal’ aesthetic with All-Star-inspired makeovers, presented in details such as unique embroidery, removable patches, and detailed overlays. Kobe Bryant, Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant, Paul George, and LeBron James each sported their performance basketball sneaker, nodding to Toronto’s royal origins: Kobe 11, Air Max Audacity Limited, KD 8, Hyperlive Limited, and the LeBron 13.
