SUSTAINABLE EYEWEAR

Akila has paved the way for eyewear as they have introduced sustainable options to the staple accessory. Since its inception in 2018, the fashion label has set standards that perfectly blend its eco-friendly heritage with its high-quality finishes. Based in Los Angeles, they are surrounded by ever-changing trends and provide a modern take on classic styles that are made for today’s styles. Devoted to providing sustainable styles to everyone, Akila offers a recycling program that properly reuses and repairs their components. In addition to recycling, they also work closely with Eden Reforestation Projects in an effort to restore forests across the globe. In their latest delivery, Akila introduces their latest collaborative projects in addition to new colorways and renditions of iconic styles.

The Vantage 2.0 is a collaborative project between Sang Bleu’s creative director Maxime Plescia-Buchi and personal friend Manuela Sota Sosa. Together, they provided an updated shape to the original that features a neo-classic silhouette. Sang Bleu is a creative agency that has consulted with a variety of artists around the globe. Introduced in 2006, the agency has worked alongside notable names including Kanye West, Rick Owens, and Pusha T. Its unique design offers a futuristic finish perfect for contemporary aesthetics. Its eco-friendly acetate frame is composed of cotton and wood pulp and transformed into the silhouette presented. The acetate is treated with either a dye or colored pellets to provide its distinctive color. Each pair is then finished with Sang Bleu’s typeface on the side which correlates with the silver hardware that provides a durable experience for long-lasting wear.

The collection also includes the latest partnership with X-Girl. Founded in 1994 by Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and companion Daisy von Furth, they aspired to provide a line of clothing that spoke to their likings of music and art. The woman-driven line takes inspiration from rock, military, the outdoors, sports, and many other street cultures to produce one-of-a-kind garments.  Their ethos is transferred over to the latest versions of Akila’s Legacy sunglasses. The eyewear contains unconventional tones as seen with the Shimmer Black and Powder Pink colorways. The Legacy frame upholds its original design with UV protectant lenses and stainless steel temples that tie everything together.

Coinciding with their collaborations, new styles of their Zed sunglasses makes their debut. Being a part of Akila’s Raw Collection, the Zed features its signature build with a unique finishing that reveals the surface for an unpolished look. Functionality is key as it provides a classic design that can be worn in a variety of settings. Akila’s vintage-made-modern process is translated onto the Analogue; the latest model to their lineup. Inspired by the 1960s, the Analogue is a contemporary take on a retro design. Constructed with Akila’s bio-degradable acetate, the frame contains smooth edges and rounded corners. Both styles contain nylon lenses with UV protection for a comfortable experience during sunny days. Lastly the Analogue and Zed Raw features barrel hinges and stainless steel temples for a durable and flexible finish that can be worn in multiple settings.
