Founded in France in 2005, eco-friendly and sustainable sneaker brand VEJA was originated by Sebastian Koop and Francois-Ghislain Morillion. The two were inspired by a visit to clothing and food factories in Southern America, Asia, and Australia while running a non-profit group. Deeply connected with how the products were made, the pair made it their goal to create stylish sneakers composed of recycled items while using some of the most ecologically sourced materials on the planet. VEJA is committed to standing up with one foot in design and the other in social responsibility. Since the brand was born in 2005, over 35 styles have been designed by the brand. All of the sneakers feature organic cotton made by farmer associations in Brazil and Peru, harvested and woven into the canvas, laces, and uppers of the designs. VEJA also utilizes rubber from rubber tappers in the Amazon to protect the forest. Rubber being one of the primary raw materials for the brand, VEJA is committed to safeguarding its materials’ ecosystems.

VEJA pays particular attention to the way sneakers are made and makes it its mission to pave the way for the future of authentic and luxurious eco-friendly footwear. With that, VEJA introduces its fifth collaboration with Rick Owens. Rick Owens is a fashion designer based in Paris and founder of the namesake label Rick Owens. The avant-garde designer incorporates a unique grunge aesthetic throughout each design he is a part of, including the most recent collaboration.VEJA and Paris-based designer Rick Owens began collaborating in 2019 with their anticipated sustainable sneakers that feature a signature Rick Owens twist.

In the latest collaboration delivery, the Hiking Style CWL receives the avant-garde aesthetic throughout the design. Entirely vegan, the Hiking Style CWL maintains the outdoor-inspired aesthetic of the classic Hiking Style while also maintaining an eco-friendly construction. The design comes in three colorways: Black, Dust, and Honey. Conceived in a vegan alternative to leather, the canvas is made up of 100% organic cotton while coated with P.U. corn starch and ricinus oil. The unique and minimalist design features optimal comfort during all times of wear due to its Amazonian rubber outsole and cotton lining. The classic extended midsole features a blend of sugar cane, while the outsole comprises a combination of Amazonian rubber and rice waste. The design features a tongue and heel pull tab for enhanced functionality, while the printed ‘V’ at the side panels completes the look.
