The transition from Illinois to California came easily for Matthew M. Williams, as he easily adapted to the lifestyle of Prismo Beach. Initially wanting to go into the medical field, California introduced Matthew to new possibilities as he found himself surrounded by skate culture, music, and the world of sports. He found himself pretty involved in soccer and enjoyed concerts in LA, but over time he developed a passion for expelling his artistic side and decided to follow his passions within the creative industry. In hopes to jump-start his career, Williams pursued a degree in art at the University of California but quickly dropped out as he realized what he actually wanted to pursue, which was fashion. He realized that New York City was the hub for fashion and decided to apply for Parsons School of Design. Unfortunately, his application was rejected but it didn’t stop him from chasing his dreams.

He then found the closest job that would get him through the door and costume design in the city was his start. He would take part in major events and find himself surrounded by A-list celebrities but the most important connection he would make would be with Lady Gaga. She gravitated towards him instantly and named him as her Creative Director and stylist. This opened the door for Williams and essentially put him on the map within the fashion world. He would also meet Kanye West and be taken under his wing serving as his Artistic Director. Because of his connection with West, he would work alongside Heron Preston and Virgil Abloh on a creative project titled Been Trill. William’s go-getter personality would then lead him into his own private label that we know as 1017 Alyx 9SM. Making its debut during the Fall/Winter season of 2015, William’s introduced Alyx with the help of Slam Jam’s Luca Benini. Named after his eldest daughter, he focused on womenswear and jewelry. Rooted in contemporary culture, he merged street styles with practical garments and luxurious finishes.

The fashion line’s unique aesthetic caught the attention of many and was nominated for the 2016 LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers. Though he didn’t win, the label was on the rise as he created a following of renowned names such as Bella Hadid and Travis Scott. Over time he evolved his categories and introduced a new collection of menswear, footwear, and accessories. In addition to his luxe finishes, Matthew Williams seeks sustainable practices when necessary including recycled textiles, waterless dyeing techniques, and organic fabrics. Because of his specific styling, dignified brands including Vans Vault, Fragment Design, and Dior have created collaborative projects with the artist. Most recently, Williams was appointed Givenchy’s Creative Director in June 2020. With a busy schedule, Williams focuses on his private line, his director position, and providing advice to other designers and artists such as Kim Jones, Skepta, Dua Lipa, and A$AP Rocky.

Most recently, Alyx has introduced its Fall Winter 2021 collection that bridges the gap between casual loungewear and sophisticated cuts. The collection draws emphasis on premium trims and intricate stitching for a quality that will last and can be worn over time. Many statement pieces are added along with essential closet garments that can be a transition to varied outfits. The FW21 collection also includes renditions of famed jewelry styles and the iconic rollercoaster buckle.

The delivery highlights new variants of the iconic Links Buckle Bracelet. Cuban chain links cut from brass are given either a gold or silver overlay while a portion is colored with either Electric Blue or Super Pink. The chain is then finished with an anodized aluminum buckle that is lasered with intricate branding and sizing. Similar designs are seen with the Classic Chainlink Bracelet and Hero 4X Chain Bracelet as its buckle is enhanced with an accenting hue.Made in Italy, each design comes in two sizes. Complete your outfit with the Signature Strap Classic and Medium Rollercoaster Belt. In a black colorway, signature branding is webbed throughout for a cohesive style. The accessory is then completed with a buckle for a secure fit that can be adjusted to fit your specific style. The belts follow William's utilitarian and modern styling with subtle references to with Virgil Abloh's distinct industrial aesthetic.

Alyx’s Luna Officer Jacket embodies all of the brand’s ethos with its quality build and minimalist branding. Cut from premium polyamide, the sleek design features a sophisticated pressed collar which is contrasted by the functional chest pockets. Its Italian construction includes metal branding at the chest- authenticating the design without taking away from the overall complexion. A similar monochromatic theme is translated over onto the Hoodie 2 as a blend of viscose, polyamide, and elastane elevates the traditional staple. Its dark complexion is constructed with woven branding and adjustable drawstrings for a more tailored finish. Signature silver hardware details the kangaroo pocket for a modern element. Pair each layering piece with the latest pant arrivals including the Elastic Waist Tailoring Pants, Track Pant 1, and Luna Cargo Pant.
