As soon as Michael Jordan signed with Nike in 1984, what we now know as the Jordan Brand started with a single shoe—the Air Jordan 1. Michael Jordan was still a young rookie, making his way as a player, and was the first basketball player to sign with the brand. Throughout Michael Jordan’s NBA career, he wore the entire Air Jordan line. Although he retired in 2003, his iconic Air Jordan and Jordan Brand legacy lives on.

In 1988, the Air Jordan 3 was released as the third signature sneaker designed for Michael Jordan. Created by renowned sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield, the silhouette is considered one of the most popular Air Jordan models. Setting a new standard for fashion and technology mixed with elevation and style, the design doesn’t feature a large Swoosh at the side panel. The design includes a Nike Air logo at the rear and a signature Jumpman logo at the tongue. The Air Jordan 3’s iconic elephant-print-inspired graphic is another primary component of the sneaker. When Hatfield was designing the shoe, he learned that Michael Jordan wanted something with a mid-cut height to be comfortable yet sophisticated in its aesthetic.

The Air Jordan 3 was seen for the first time on Michael Jordan during the 1988 NBA All-Star Game and Slam Dunk Contest held during the All-Star Weekend in Chicago. Since its debut, some of the sneaker’s most iconic colorways include ‘White Cement,’ ‘Black Cement,’ ‘Fire Red,’ ‘True Blue,’ and more.

With that, the Air Jordan 3’s new iteration, ‘Orewood Brown,’ is a must-have design for any collection. Releasing in a full family-size range, the design takes on muted earth tones. The upper is crafted from suede and includes elephant-print-like overlays at the forefoot and heel. This same pattern can be found at the eyestay. Perforated nubuck material is placed at the padded collar, while classic Jumpman branding embellishes the tongue and molded heel tab. The exposed Air-sole unit is placed within the heel of the polyurethane midsole, treated with a unique finish. A durable rubber outsole underneath completes the rest of the design.
