Just Restocked: Gallery Dept. Core 0.2

Haven Neiman

The journey of designer Josue Thomas is anything but linear. Having had no formal training in fashion or garment making, he credits his natural skills to his immigrant parents, who had worked tirelessly to build a life for themselves and their children in Los Angeles, California. Josue Thomas started working at clothing stores in his early twenties, and it was around that time when he began experimenting with cutting jeans, screen-printing t-shirts, and overall learning the art of repurposing garments.

Before establishing his monumental streetwear brand Gallery Dept., Johnny Depp’s stylist bought a hand-sewn denim poncho off of Thomas’ back. This moment, among others, catapulted him into establishing his clothing brand. His lifelong love of apparel was inspired by art, streetwear, vintage fashion, and his absorbing his own parents’ creative skills. Inspired by the concepts of actual gallery departments, his brand’s goal is to repurpose garments into something entirely new, all while not sacrificing quality or artistic integrity. Sitting somewhere between a fashion label and a vintage store, Josue Thomas’ Gallery Dept. has amassed much notoriety and growth over the past six years. With that, Gallery Dept. introduces a restock of its Core 0.2 collection. Including graphic tees, denim jeans, trucker hats, and even accessories, this collection has something for everyone.

Notable hats from the brand include the Art That Kills Cotton Hat, Fucked Up Trucker Cap, GD Logo Trucker, among others. The Fucked Up Trucker Cap takes on a polyester foam construction along with mesh paneling on the sides. A curved brim is placed, while the adjustable snapback closure makes a functional statement. The upside-down printed logo branding at the face wraps up the look.

As for apparel, the La Flare Blue Denim is a signature piece from the streetwear brand. Having gone through a unique distressing and dying process, the jeans take on a wholly repurposed cotton construction. The jeans feature a flare design, five pockets, and reinforced belt loops. The zip fly offers security, while the hand-applied splatters and distressing provide a unique touch. The branded woven labels at the waistband and the distressed hems complete the overall design.
