Puma has made an impact within the footwear industry since its inception in 1948. Their dedication to footwear has transcended over time as they have become prominent within sports culture and fashion. Models including the Speedcat and Ralph Sampson have gained popularity over time but one of the most memorable silhouettes to date is the Puma Suede. Introduced in 1986, the sneaker has become a classic as its silhouette has withstood the trials of fashion. Puma supplied the Suede to the U.S. track and field team during the 1968 Olympics in Mexico and the sneaker instantly gained notoriety. Many colorways were introduced during the event but it was Tomme Smith’s black and white palette that made the biggest impact as he stood on the podium with the iconic shoe. 

The model has seen many variants including its Swarovski takeover and Ader Error’s progressive rendition, but most recently Puma has introduced its Made in Japan version. Crafted with premium cuts of suede, the upper offers a durable build that protects the integrity of the sneaker. Another high-end attribute includes its synthetic leather liner and metallic formstrip seen at lateral sides. This metallic design is transferred over to the foiled Puma No. 2 branding which differs from the traditional Puma Suede logo. Similar motifs can be seen stitched upon the tongue and along the heel; the shoe is well-recognized therefore Puma wanted to shine a light on the historic model. 

In comparison to the Suede Core, the Made In Japan is designed with a thinner tongue contributing a modern and more sleek aesthetic. This theme is emphasized with raw edges and trim throughout the base and tongue, a feature that is only seen within the Made In Japan. In addition to its signature Japanese craftsmanship, the Suede comes complete with a shorter vamp which combats the traditional American design. Making its debut earlier this year, the sneaker is making a return in new colorways that can be implemented within any style. Colors including High Risk Red, Spectra Yellow, and Gray Violet decorate the suede. Combined, the Suede Made in Japan offers variants with bold palettes. The growing popularity of the Suede draws an emphasis on its timeless style, making Puma’s a classic for all times.
