The Air Jordan 2 made its debut to the world a year after the introduction of the Air Jordan 1. The sneaker was a polarizing silhouette that was risky for Nike, especially since the first Air Jordan sneaker was such a success. The Air Jordan 2 was a pivotal moment in basketball, the fashion industry, and Michael Jordan’s career as a professional basketball player. Michael Jordan wore Air Jordan 2s during his 1985-1986 season, breaking countless records and becoming an NBA All-Star Player. The Air Jordan 2 also made an impression in pop culture, as it was seen on the feet of Bill Murray in the film Space Jam.

Regarding the Air Jordan 2 concept, Nike wanted to make a sneaker in the Air Jordan line that was more elevated in its overall aesthetic and appearance, both on and off the court. One stand-out attribute of the Air Jordan 2 is its lack of Swoosh, found on the first Air Jordan sneaker. The silhouette was stripped of the original Nike logo and replaced with Jordan Wings branding. The Air Jordan 2 was designed by sneaker designers Bruce Kilgore and Peter Moore. With that, Air Jordan introduces its latest Air Jordan 2 arrival, this time, in a ‘low’ iteration: ‘UNC.’ Available in men’s and grade school sizing, this silhouette resembles the Air Jordan 2 Low worn by the imitable Michael Jordan during the Collegiate Legends Classic alumni game on June 28, 1987. In 1986, Michael Jordan wore a high-top pair of Air Jordan 2 sneakers with a UNC-inspired blue accent at the heel.

The sneaker itself takes on a leather construction within a low-top build. The lace-up front closure secures the look, while the Air Jordan branding array also makes an impression. The interior lining and molded heel tab are also placed. The polyurethane midsole has encapsulated Air-sole cushioning and a rubber outsole.
