Nike x Stussy Huarache LE Releases February 18th

Chelsie Rendon

The year 2000 wasn’t just the beginning of a new millennium but also the year that established the forever-relationship between Nike and Stussy - which would ultimately set standards for future releases within the fashion industry. Shawn Stussy began his namesake in Laguna Beach and became well dignified within the streetwear community. The fashion label known as Stussy set the bar when it came to exclusive and high-end streetwear. As for Nike, they were able to dominate the footwear market with their incredible silhouettes for athletes and sneaker enthusiasts. When the introduction between the two brands ignited, it started a frenzy as the design was limited and on a completely different continent. 21 years later, Nike and Stussy have announced its re-release of their original collaboration, the Nike Air Huarache LE in the colorway Desert Oak and Reed. For the first time ever, the United States and other countries are able to snag a pair upon its release.

Sneaker enthusiasts and fashion aficionados are completely stunned by its release and are anxiously waiting to snag a pair. When the sneaker was originally offered to the general public, it was only attainable by those who lived in London and had the capabilities of visiting the Stussy Chapter Store within the city. When the public found out about this exclusive design, it started a frenzy. Its release is so limited and unattainable by the mass, that everyone hoped more would come to a city near them. Since the initial collaboration, the two labels have teamed up multiple times to create premium designs with limited quantities to ensure an exclusive experience. One of Stussy’s well-renowned designers, Michael Kopleman, was the mastermind behind the Huarache’s design. Within collaborations, we commonly see co-branding or exclusive branding within the apparel. But Stussy’s signature motif is completely missing from the sneakers design begging the question, is this actually the brand’s first collaboration with Nike? But based on its history and release, the Huarache LE is officially the first combined effort between the two. Because of the unseen Stussy motif, the shoe is highly desirable.

A replica of the original will be released this February for the masses in limited quantities. The silhouette will resemble and offer all of its original detailing including its Stussy-free branding. Though the iconic Stussy logo cannot be found within the silhouette, true fans will undoubtedly recognize the exclusive shoe. Its timeless colorway of Desert Oak and Reed throughout the model’s signature cage design. Leather and suede overlays dress the sneaker while a mesh fabric builds the upper. A socklike design hugs the ankle ensuring a secure and lock-in effect during times of wear. The midsole is constructed with phylon and Nike’s Air technology. The Air pockets are implemented throughout the sole to add comfort and a responsive effect with each step. The outer sole utilizes the signature waffle print that provides traction and durability over time. Signature Nike branding is seen upon the back rubber strap and within the tongue. The Huarache motif is highlighted in the Reed colorway standing out against the neutral stylings of the shoe. You will be able to secure the sneakers in children sizing as well as they will be released in a family size run.
