READYMADE x Nike Blazer Mid Releases February 27th
Chelsie Rendon
Japanese fashion label, Readymade has a distinct aesthetic that can be recognized throughout their collections. So when footwear giant, Nike, offered to team up with the brand, they made sure that both brands can be unmistakably seen within the exclusive designs. Founder, Yuta Hosokawaout, wanted Readymade’s theme to promote world peace by utilizing upcycling military materials and reworking vintage gear. The use of these materials provides the collections a tactical yet modern style that can be implemented in everyday outfits. The Blazer model was chosen in particular as Readymade’s designer vividly remembers his first pair of basketball shoes were Nike’s. With this in mind, the two labels showcase their reimagined and abstract version of the Blazer Mid releasing on February 27th.
Taking a deconstruction approach, the Blazer reverts to its original silhouette with DIY and abstract designs stitched among the sneakers. Utilizing multiple materials, the Blazer is constructed with varying textures paying tribute to Readymade’s key ethos. Attributes featured within the silhouette include a triple lace set within the midfoot and toe box for an overall hatched and rugged effect. In hopes to emulate a nostalgic effect, the use of the 1971 Swoosh is half-stitched among the side panels. The motif’s thin and elongated constructions emphasize the hand-made design. A textured rubber sole contributes to the varying finishes seen within the model in addition to the raw edges along the foam tongue and lining.
The sneaker sticks to the fashion label’s core values as the rubber outsole is made with approximately 15% Nike Grind: a mixture of recycled materials that is a combination of scrapped and worn-out shoes. Nike utilizes this material within many of their models as it provides a sensation of responsiveness with every step; an experience emulating comfort during times of extraneous wear. The sneakers can be obtained in either White or Black; complimenting the camo-inspired pattern found within its collar and tongue. The introduction of the Blazer Mid is anticipated by many as it utilizes both of the brand’s distinct aesthetics embedded within their DNA.
