Gallery Dept. Core 0.3

Gallery Dept. Core 0.3

Haven Neiman

Getting his start by working at clothing stores in his early twenties, Josue Thomas’s journey of becoming a fashion designer is anything but linear. He had no formal training in fashion design or garment making, and he credits his natural creative skills to his immigrant parents, who worked tirelessly to build a life for themselves and the rest of their children in Los Angeles, California. While working at those clothing stores, Thomas began experimenting with hobbies like cutting jeans, screen-printing t-shirts, and learning about the overall art of garment repurposing.

Josue Thomas’ lifelong love of apparel was inspired by concepts of actual gallery departments, which would later result in him establishing Gallery Dept. officially in 2017 in Los Angeles. Before formally establishing the streetwear brand, Johnny Depp’s stylist bought a hand-sewn denim poncho right off Josue Thomas’ back. This moment, among many others, helped catapult him into establishing the now iconic streetwear and clothing brand. The goal of Gallery Dept. is to repurpose garments into something entirely new, all while not sacrificing quality or artistic integrity. Gallery Dept. sits somewhere between a fashion label and a vintage store. Gallery Dept. has gained massive notoriety and growth over the past six years. With that, Gallery Dept. introduces a restock of its Core 0.3 collection and new arrivals like graphic tees, socks, sweatpants, hoodies, and other must-have items.

One must-have design from the new collection is the Gallery Dept. French Tee. Composed of cotton, the tee is made for a boxy fit and includes a crew neckline. Faded screen-printed logo branding wraps up the remainder of the design for a finishing touch. The Gallery Dept. Art Dept Tee is another notable graphic silhouette with its vintage-inspired collegiate detailing. Besides t-shirts, the Gallery Dept. Hat is another must-have. Composed of cotton, the shape features woven eyelets at the crown. At the same time, the embroidered logotype at the face, paired with the flat brim and adjustable snapback closure, wraps up the remainder of the headwear silhouette. Moving forward with the collegiate aesthetic, Gallery Dept.’s French Logo Sweat Shorts are a must-have with their loose-fitting and raw hem detailing. The shorts are made of cotton and feature an elastic drawstring waistband, side pockets, and screen-printed branding for a finishing touch.
