During the year 1993, Michael Jordan’s athleticism continued pushing the boundaries within the sports industry. Known for his basketball skills he started to dabble into baseball as well. He soon began that transition and announced his retirement from the NBA. Though many were sad to see him leave basketball, his journey in baseball was only beginning. During his last season on the court, he debuted the Air Jordan IX. The silhouette was developed by Tinker Hatfield where he drew inspiration from MJ’s worldwide recognition. The globe and Jumpman emblem displayed on the heel was developed for this specific model and has been carried over to every reiteration since then. After leaving the NBA, Jordan joined the Chicago White Sox AA minor league team named the Birmingham Barons. This venture ended within a year and Michael Jordan went back to his roots of basketball eventually winning three more NBA titles. 

Kicking off 2021, the Jordan brand is releasing a reiteration of the ‘Dark Charcoal’ colorway utilizing University Gold throughout its design. Slight upgrades are given to the silhouette while maintaining its original construction. The University Gold colorway is showcased within the sock liner, heel pull-tab, and iconic Jordan emblems throughout the dark base - making it truly stand out. A blacked-out rubber sole complements the genuine nubuck leather composition found along the upper. Traditional foam cushioning can be found within its midsole while Nike’s Zoom Air technology is implemented within its heel elevating its comfort. In comparison to previous models, this sneaker is given a subtle finish utilizing a monochromatic base and minimal pops of color. The sneaker can be easily paired for a pick-up game or casually worn with an outfit, channeling sophistication with its blacked-out composition.
