Kanye West’s notable and iconic Yeezy legacy officially began in 2015 in collaboration with the athleisure brand Adidas Originals. The rapper, artist, and entrepreneur joined alongside Adidas as he was offered a more hands-on design position, allowing him more creative freedom to assist in designing apparel and footwear. Kanye West’s unique mindset toward fashion, paired with his unconventional legacy, helped fully establish the Yeezy sneaker line as a household name and contribute to its impactful legacy. The Yeezy 500 is a stand-out silhouette featured in the Yeezy sneaker line. First teased in 2017 by Kanye in public, the sneaker was officially released in 2018 in a ‘Desert Rat’ colorway. This was the first sneaker not to feature a signature Adidas BOOST midsole. These premium sneakers sported a ‘Feet You Wear’ sole, initially debuting on Kobe Bryant’s signature Adidas KB8 III sneakers in 1999. This design is intended to prevent basketball players from rolling their ankles on the cord. The simple chunky design aligns with the signature streetwear sneaker aesthetics in the current age.

The latest addition to the Yeezy 500 lineup includes the newest colorway, ‘Granite.’ This premium sneaker silhouette spotlights a unique upper composed of a blend of full-grain leather paired with additional suede overlays. Soft yet durable, the chunky sneaker incorporates additional mesh detailing for breathability. The reflective piping details offers optimal dimension. The rubber wrap is seen throughout the chunky midsole, providing additional support and abrasion resistance. The Yeezy 500 ‘Granite’ swaps the traditional BOOST midsole for Adiprene+ cushioning, which helps absorb impact and optimizes rebound. Rubber is placed underneath the silhouette, completing the remainder of the durable aesthetic.
