Just Arrived: Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh
Haven Neiman
Before the late Virgil Abloh got his start in 2012, he was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois by his mother who was a seamstress. This upbringing sparked his love of clothing. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Virgil Abloh joined Kanye West as interns at Fendi in Rome in 2009. This duo made a notable impact, crafting a vibe of streetwear that still maintains its popularity to this day. The alignment of Abloh and West was just the beginning of Abloh’s career. Abloh eventually became the Creative Director of Donda, West’s creative agency. Only a year later did the designer direct the Grammy-nominated album Watch the Throne by Jay-Z and Kanye West.
Abloh established Off-White, which is defined as a multi-platform creative endeavor. Its primary medium is fashion, which combines concepts of streetwear, luxury, music, travel, and art. Often tasked with the definition “the grey area between black and white,” Off-White combines modern-day streetwear with contemporary impressionable graphics. The brand’s deconstructive attitude captures the streetwear scene at its core with notable designs like the iconic diagonal spray, zebra stripes, yellow warning belts, and arrow motifs. With the new Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Mona Lisa Skate L/S Tee, it is one of the latest additions to the brand’s apparel repertoire. Cut from cotton, the silhouette spotlights screen-printed Mona Lisa imagery at the chest paired with printed tape motif detailing. The screen-printed branding at the rear paired with ribbed detailing at the neckline and cuffs complete the look.
The Off-White c/o Virgil Abloh Camo Patch Field Jacket is a premium elevated streetwear outerwear item. Composed of cotton, the silhouette includes a button-down closure paired with chest pockets for a functional touch. Embroidered patchwork is seen at both sleeves, while the pointed collar adds further technical details. The screen-printed arrow motifs at the rear paired with the camouflage print complete the look. As for shoes, the brand’s latest arrivals spotlight the Out of Office Calf Leather. Elevated in its aesthetic, the silhouette features a leather upper paired with a leather tie tag at the cotton laces. A perforated toe box is placed for added breathability, while the embroidered leather arrow motif adds additional spotlighting. The rubber outsole underneath protects the rest of the design.
