CONVERSE X SPACE JAM
RELEASE JULY 16TH
The well-anticipated sequel to the iconic 1997 Space Jam is set to release July 16th and in honor of its debut, Converse pays tribute to iconic characters on signature silhouettes. The original movie follows the story of Michael Jordan as he teams up with Bugs Bunny for a basketball game to defeat a group of aliens. The latest movie is met with a similar storyline but instead of MJ, it is basketball superstar Lebron James. Titled Space Jam: A New Legacy, the movie contains high-profile names including Zendaya, Don Cheadle, and Gabriel Iglesias. In addition to notable actors, the movie introduces renowned NBA players such as Damian Lillard, Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis, and Klay Thompson. The movie is jam-packed with A-list celebrities and is one of the most anticipated movies of the year. Prepare for the movie premiere with signature sneakers reminiscent of the iconic movie.
Converse highlights the new generation of Looney Tunes on three silhouettes. The first one being the Pro Leather Ox as it pays homage to Lola Bunny and her signature aesthetic. Designed with a complete leather upper, the sneaker features intricately stitched motifs of her character and cues to the basketball game from the movie. Converse’s inimitable star and chevron are placed on the side panels with a textured overlay similar to Lola Bunny’s fur. Its integrity is withheld with a rubber outsole while optimal comfort is achieved through perforated holes and a cushioned midsole. Converse adds sophisticated attributes throughout the base as seen with the mixture of embossed and embroidered branding at the heel and side panels. Miniature perforated details are placed throughout for subtle airflow with each step making it the perfect lifestyle sneaker for casual and sophisticated styles.
The collection includes the latest version of the iconic Chuck 70 Hi. Deriving from a historic basketball background, it was only right that the delivery included an updated version of the original Chuck. The mid-weight canvas is blended with leather paneling that complements the dark colorings. The sneakers feature a familiar colorway that ties together the collection and movie. Embroidered on the outer heels we see textured branding intricately woven for a long-lasting finish. A rubber outsole highlights traditional striping and the Converse plate at the rear. The rounded toe box protects the foot from outer forces while the cotton lace closure offers a snug and comfortable fit with each step.
Designed with a bold touch, the last sneaker includes a contemporary and galactic version of the Run Star Motion Hi. The sneaker features signature attributes including its platform outsole and rugged grip. This rubber outsole is accentuated for optimal traction that can latch onto a variety of terrains. Working alongside the dramatic sole we see a canvas upper that is designed with galactic imagery paying homage to the space theme. Converse’s signature circle emblem is placed on the inner panels in a bright orange that is similar to Looney Tune’s branding. Functional elements include a secure full-length lace closure and a heel pull tab for easy application during wear times. In addition to Converse, Nike is also set to release footwear that coincides with the movie- the Lebron 8 ‘Space Jam,’ Air Force 1 ‘07, and Lebron XVIII Low will make its debut as well.
The latest version of the Lebrons focuses on Looney Tune rivalries from Tweety Bird and Sylvester to Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner. Evoking a sense of nostalgia, the shoes also incorporate major themes from the movies into their iconic sneaker silhouettes. Grab a more detailed look at the Converse x Space Jam Collection above.
