‘Reverse Classics’

Rudolf Dassler’s German-based athleisure sportswear label Puma was first introduced in the mid-1900s. Known for its premium sneakers and apparel that sport their iconic Puma logo paired with a Puma Formstrip, the brand has established itself as one of the fashion industry’s primary leaders. ‘Puma’ means strength, agility, and endurance, and this concept is recognized throughout each brand’s offerings. Puma has grown into one of the most recognizable and iconic sportswear brands in the fashion industry, having collaborated with renowned designers and brands to bring sports influences into street culture and fashion.

In 1990, Puma introduced its most advanced cushioning technology yet—TRINOMIC. Incorporated within a hexagonal system in the sole that compressed and rebounded heavy loads, this premium and revolutionary material was applied across a selection of the brand’s shoes. TRINOMIC intends to provide these three fundamental elements: cushioning, stability, and flexibility. Puma expanded its footwear repertoire in 2006, specifically the TRINOMIC family, introducing the Blaze of Glory silhouette. This retro sneaker was inspired by the PUMA DISC Blaze silhouette from the ‘90s and included laces for added security. This vintage-inspired sneaker was more padded and plush than previous TRINOMIC silhouettes. It had a distinct new upper paired with a secure lacing system. The final new component of the design was the comfortable sock-like construction.

With this history in mind, Puma is bringing this iconic ‘90s silhouette back with the Blaze of Glory ‘Reverse Classics.’ Featured in two colorways inspired by previous shapes, these new sneakers maintain the design’s initial inspiration. Crafted into a sock-like construction, the design incorporates a mixture of mesh and leather within the lace-up upper. The TPU window adds additional detailing, while the iconic TRINOMIC cushioning adds comfort with each step. The heel loop provides easy on and off. The perforated detailing at the heel adds additional breathability, while the embroidered branding placed throughout paired with the bold contrasting details further references the ‘90s aesthetic. A treaded rubber outsole underneath the silhouette completes the look with optimal durability and functionality.
