Comme des Garçons Collections
Haven Neiman
The origins of Comme des Garçons date back to 1973 with its founder, Rei Kawakubo. The self-taught designer is best known for her avant-garde take on fashion. After studying literature and art at Keio University, she began working at a textile firm and learned about clothing construction, pattern cutting, and other techniques that would become needed for her future. It was then that she established the fashion house Comme des Garçons. The fashion house has branched into many lines, such as Comme des Garçons PLAY, Parfum, Wallet + SHIRT. Comme des Garçons PLAY
Arriving in 2002, Comme des Garçons PLAY is considered to be one of the most popular diffusion lines of the Japanese fashion house. Also referred to as CDG PLAY, the label is well-known for its bug-eyed red heart motif, including apparel like t-shirts, crewnecks, sweaters, and more. Comme des Garçons PLAY is also highly regarded for its ongoing collaboration with heritage sneaker brand Converse. Presented on the Converse x Comme des Garçons PLAY All-Star Chuck ‘70 Hi, the collaborative sneaker utilizes a cotton canvas upper and a rubber toe cap. The printed bug-eyed red heart graphic is placed at the sides, while the vulcanized rubber sole wraps up the rest of the design. Click here to shop the rest of the Comme des Garçons PLAY collection.
Comme des Garçons Homme Plus
Launching about ten years after the original label, Comme des Garçons Homme Plus takes on a gender-opposite parallel to the primary line. This label directly translates Rei Kawakubo’s dynamic vision from womenswear to menswear. Offerings in Comme des Garçons Homme Plus offer a deconstructed and unique take on apparel, such as in the Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Plus Sweater. Crafted from wool, the sweater utilizes intarsia knit branding at the front. Rib-knit detailing at the neckline, cuffs, and hem complete the design. Click here to shop the entire collection.
Comme des Garçons Parfum
Straying away from apparel, Comme des Garçons introduced its fragrance line, Comme des Garçons Parfum, in 1994. The fragrance line nods to the brand’s fashion roots and rule-breaking aesthetics with its array of elevated fragrances that utilize ingredients in a non-traditional way to introduce new and unique scents. Suitable for everyone, these fragrances take on asymmetrical shapes that are meant to fit in the palm of your hand. Unique fragrances from this line include Comme des Garçons Parfum PLAY Red Eau de Toilette, Comme des Garçons Parfum Wonderwood Eau de Parfum + more. Comme des Garçons Wallet
As one of the oldest lines in the Comme des Garçons repertoire, Comme des Garçons Wallet was introduced in the early ‘80s. The entire brand’s focus, wallets, has broadened over the years to include accessories like device cases. Nonetheless, the line stays true to its roots by introducing wallets, coin pouches, and other accessories that utilize signature bright colors and fun patterns. Comme des Garçons SHIRT
Launching in 1988, Comme des Garçons SHIRT’s sole purpose is to focus on one item—the shirt. This diffusion line sets out to take a unique perspective on an everyday wardrobe item. The sub-label perfectly encapsulates Rei Kawakubo’s extraordinary mind, where studying a single shirt can create an entire clothing line. Over the years, the line has expanded to include more apparel staples such as pants, blazers, and more. Click here to take a closer look at the Comme des Garçons SHIRT collection.
