Air Jordan 6 Retro x Travis Scott ‘Khaki Jack’ Release on April 30th
Chelsie Rendon
Travis Scott always had a yearning for music at a young age, so when his passion brought him to Los Angeles, it was apparent that his drive could get him far. Born Jacques Bermon Webster, he utilized a stage name to get him farther in the industry. Travis derived from his favorite uncle and Scott is Kid Cudi’s first name, who is his musical inspiration. When put together, the famed name Travis Scott is born and is now his identity that we commonly see. To achieve his dreams, he would set for LA in 2011 where he would meet T.I. and Kanye West. Because of this introduction, he would make his first break in the music industry, and in 2012 he would sign his first record deal with Epic Records and work as a producer within Kanye West’s GOOD Music. When he debuted his first album ‘Rodeo’ in 2015, his single Antidote was an instant hit. He rose in ranks and would collaborate with notable artists such as Quavo and Drake as seen in the 2018 Billboard Hit song, Sicko Mode. As he continued to grow so did his brand, he is commonly referred to as Cactus Jack or La Flame which is seen in many of his releases and projects. Referring to the desert of Texas and his birth name Jacques, he has been able to absorb the identity of Cactus Jack and utilize this to his advantage and create a sub-label under his umbrella.
Travis Scott is now incredibly involved in many projects as he has disbursed his creative mindset to many brands. Most recently he has teamed up with McDonald’s on a special meal known as ‘The Travis Scott’ combo. This was a historic moment for Scott as McDonald’s hasn’t teamed up with a celebrity since Michael Jordan in 1992. He is also involved with PlayStation as he has acquired the role of a Strategic Creative Partner in hopes to promote the latest console. In addition to those ventures, he is also seen with brands including BAPE, Helmut Lang, Ksubi, Virgil Abloh, Yves Saint Laurent, Readymade, Reese’s Puff, and Fortnite. With a handful of partnerships, his most notable refers to his footwear designs with Nike.
Originally teased at the beginning of 2017, both Nike and Scott produced an exclusive sneaker only meant for friends and family. Even though the Trunner LX sneaker never made it to the public, it did introduce the possibilities the duo had. So when the first official silhouette released in December of 2017, the market went crazy. Nike and Travis Scott released the Air Force 1 Low ‘AF100’ in honor of the sneaker’s 35th anniversary. Sold in limited quantities, the shoe had a complete sell-through and created a frenzy for the next sneakers. The next introductions would include the Air Jordan 4 ‘Cactus Jack’ in a bright blue colorway and the Air Jordan 1 OG ‘Cactus Jack.’ The Air Jordan 1 easily became the most sought-after design as it highlighted a mocha colorway, dark attributes, and a flipped swoosh. Many were surprised to see that Nike allowed the rendered logo but it made the sneaker even more desirable as it played with the classic design. Knowing its popularity, later that same year Nike and Travis released the ‘Cactus Jack’ mocha colorway on an Air Jordan 1 Low and received the same amount of energy as the high top version. Most recently he introduced a ‘Cactus Jack’ rendition of the classic Air Jordan 6 Retro which includes nubuck upper in the color olive and stash pockets upon the ankle. For 2021, the duo continues the relationship and shines a light on the Air Jordan 6 Retro once more in a new colorway known as ‘Khaki Jack.’
Honoring the 30th anniversary of the Air Jordan 6, Travis Scott and Jordan Brand have teamed up to showcase the latest model and colorway. The sneaker is met with a genuine suede upper in the hue ‘British Khaki’ while accents of sail and crimson contrast the neutral complexion. Attributes including a translucent tongue and heel tab are seen within the design as well as printed Cactus Jack branding upon the outsole. Classic details include Nike’s signature Air insole and transparent window along with the lace lock toggle which champions Jumpman and Cactus Jack motifs. To complete its design, Scott’s famed stash pockets are highlighted within the ankle collar offering a tactical element to the sneaker. Made with a zip and button closure, the pockets can be utilized or simply seen as a fashion statement. The sought-after new Air Jordan release is in limited quantities and is available online at sneaker boutiques. Many sneaker enthusiasts will be anxiously awaiting the shoe’s arrival hoping to win a raffle and champion the exclusive collaboration.
