Beginning his fashion career with a keen interest in fashion and by designing clothes in the early 2010s, Philippines-born Rhuigi Villaseñor is not only best known for founding the high-end streetwear and contemporary menswear label Rhude, but or his visual commentary on Los Angeles’ style and culture. Rhuigi Villaseñor credits his his mother, a tailor, for his understanding of garments and construction, as Villaseñor had no formal training in fashion design whatsoever.

Over the years, Rhuigi Villaseñor has gained traction from countless high-profile artists, with the most notable being Kendrick Lamar. In 2012, the rapper wore a custom black and white pailsey bandana-print t-shirt at the Grammy’s. This was the first piece the designer crafted for Rhude, which helped not only catapult the brand, but Rhuigi Villaseñor’s career entirely. 

With that, Rhuigi continues his ongoing footwear collaboration history with athleisure label Puma with the release of the Puma x Rhuigi Slipstream ‘Pristine/Juniper.’ This collaboration started in 2018 officially with the designer’s brand Rhude, but this new addition focuses on the designer as a whole. The Puma x Rhuigi Slipstream ‘Pristine/Juniper’ allows the designer to tell a personal story by explaining specific design aspects he directly correlates to.

The Puma x Rhuigi Slipstream ‘Pristine/Juniper’ makes an impression with its premium blend of suede and leather at the upper. The design itself is secured by a chunky cotton lace-up closure. Perforations are added to the toe box for breathability. The aged midsole spotlights debossed Puma branding, while additional co-branding can be seen at the tongue and sockliner. The Puma Anti-Shock system allows for optimal energy return with each step. The collaborative branded box paired with the rubber outsole finishes the rest of the look.
