Neighborhood was founded by Shinsuke Takizawa in 1994 that has the mission to “Craft with Pride.” The Japanese streetwear brand pulls inspiration from classic motorcycle apparel while combining military workwear and punk culture together. Since its initial launch, Neighboorhood has taken the fashion industry by storm and is one of the leading brands in contemporary streetwear culture. Neighborhood is fueled by authentic Japanese culture with a modern streetwear spin on it and has partnered up with Mister Cartoon on his latest collaboration to deliver one of the kind apparel and Vans silhouettes.
Mark Machado, also known as Mister Cartoon, is a legendary tattoo and graffiti artist based out in Los Angeles, California. From an early age, Mister Cartoon was immersed in the art industry and began his career initially as a graffiti artist before branching out into album covers, murals, logos and tattoos.
As stated in one of Machado’s Instagram post, Takizawa and Machado have been friends for a long time and have finally connected to create this collaboration. The inspiration is drawn from a fantasy liquor store, the West Coast in the 90s, LA lowriders and signature Tokyo street style all emerged into one.
The collaboration features both apparel and two signature Vans silhouettes inspired by the style that both Takizawa and Machado grew up wearing. The Vans come in two styles, Vans Authentic 44 DX and Old Skool 36 DX. The Authentic 44 DX features an all-over airbrushed Chicano print with Neighborhood branding on the midsole. The Old Skool 36 DX features a black suede upper with a faded black midsole. Both silhouettes pay homage to Takizawa and Machado’s hometown with Los Angeles and Tokyo branded on the sneakers.
The apparel features classic streetwear silhouettes with “Uncle Toons Mart” slogans and different graphics in mostly black and white colorways. To shop the latest Neighborhood x Mr. Cartoon collaboration click here.
