Releasing in 1985, shortly after a young Michael Jordan signed with Nike to create a line of sneakers inspired by him and his career, the Air Jordan 1 forever changed the fashion and sneaker industry with its arrival. It was different from the everyday NBA-approved monochromatic basketball sneakers, and it utilized bright colors and signature logos that nodded to Michael Jordan himself. During the ‘80s, Nike was relatively unknown in basketball, and they entered with Michael Jordan and his new Air Jordan line of sneakers.

Considered ‘the one that started it all’ in the Air Jordan sneaker legacy, the Air Jordan 1 was designed by the legendary sneaker designer Peter Moore. Its design was unique with its high-top construction made from leather that also utilized Nike’s new Air technology at the sole. The Air Jordan 1’s overall structure was inspired by Michael Jordan’s unique personality and playing style, which can be found through his signature Jordan Wings logo. This iconic logo was inspired by Michael’s on-court performances and tendency to fly above his opponents. Peter Moore also designed the Jordan Wings logo and the ‘Jumpman’ logo introduced later. Some iconic Air Jordan 1 colorways are ‘Bred,’ ‘Chicago,’ ‘True Blue,’ ‘Royal,’ ‘Shattered Backboard,’ and more. 

Now, the Jordan Brand introduces the latest iteration of the Air Jordan 1. Arriving in a full family size range, the Air Jordan 1 ‘University Blue’ nods to Michael Jordan’s alma mater, the University of North Carolina. Arriving in a University Blue, Black, and White color scheme, this premium sneaker comes in a full-leather upper with a White leather base and Black overlays and Swooshes. The mesh tongue, lining, and Wings logo make an impression. Tongue branding and additional branding at the heels and toe box, offer further detailing. The perforated toe box, encapsulated Air cushioning, and rubber outsole provide a comfortable finish to this sneaker.
