WACKO MARIA SS20 | Collaboration with Jean-Michel Basquiat + Rage Against the Machine
Marissa Villamor
Founded back in 2005, WACKO MARIA was inspired by American culture from art, music and film. The high-end streetwear brand is easily recognizable from its punk attitude, unmissable prints and religious imagery and slogans. Most recognizable phrases include “Guilty Parties” and “Paradise Tokyo” that pays homage to the Japanese district of Nakameguro. Known for its religious imagery and Hawaiian style button-up shirts, WACKO MARIA has taken the streetwear industry by storm adding a noticeable separation from their streetwear counterparts.
With no different to their Spring Summer 2020 collection, WACKO MARIA partners up with several big names from Jean-Michel Basquiat to Rage Against the Machine to deliver a bold SS20 delivery.
The latest collection delivers a mix of Summertime apparel and silhouettes featuring a variety of different animal prints, sporty staples and bold graphics.
Notable pieces in the collection include WACKO MARIA Jean-Michel Basquiat SS Hawaiian Shirt Type 2, which honors Basquiat’s artwork with an all-over print to a classic button-up short-sleeved shirt. The delivery also includes a handful of Rage Against the Machine apparel from an all-over print Hawaiian Shirt to crewnecks and short-sleeved t-shirts. All graphic items are licensed from Rage Against the Machine and Basquiat. Other items include WACKO MARIA’s signature “Guilty Parties” slogan on a variety of crewnecks, Hawaiian button-ups and short-sleeved shorts.
