COMME DES GARÇONS PLAY x CONVERSE
ALL-STAR CHUCK 70
Teaming up with Converse is a dream to many fashion labels as their historic platform has revolutionized a wide range of categories. From the game of basketball to iconic films like Grease and Rocky, Converse is known for creating classic footwear staples that can be implemented on a wide range of styles. Ever since its adoption from Nike, Converse has been growing their collaborations portfolio as they have introduced new projects with a variety of labels, brands, and influencers. Some of the most recognizable names being Fear of God ESSENTIALS, Golf le Fleur, Stussy, Sponge Bob Square Pants, Space Jam, and more. Though their list of partnerships are impressive, the longest and well-known project comes from Rei Kawakubo’s Comme des Garçons PLAY. Just like Converse, Comme des Garçons PLAY also has a dignified portfolio as brands also anticipate partnering with the Japanese-label. North Face, Nike, and K-Way are just a few of the names that are lucky enough to utilize the iconic heart and eye motif commonly seen within PLAY’s designs. Through it all, Comme des Garçons PLAY and Converse continue to produce quality sneakers that outlast the trials of time and fashion.
For over a decade, the duo has produced silhouettes that stick true to the original with cues from the high-fashion label. The playful heart and eyes logo decorates the base as neutral tones encapsulates the All-Star Chuck 70 sneaker. Since its initial release we’ve seen a wide range of variants and colorways of the iconic sneaker. From the ‘Multi Heart’ logo to the ‘Polka Dot’ overlay, the shoe has become a part of sneaker rotations to this day. In addition to patterns, the duo takes pride in their color palettes as they exclusively drop certain hues. They are mostly known for their neutral tones but we’ve also seen a pink, lime green, and sky blue rendition as well. Most recently, they have released two new seasonal colorways that offer a playful twist to the original. A vibrant blue and a dynamic neutral grey are introduced in both a Low and High version of the All-Star Chuck 70.
In addition to the bold colored canvas, we also see the latest iteration of the heart and eyes motif. Commonly colored in red, the logo is designed in a rich black that stands out against the natural colorings. Each sneaker is made with a premium canvas upper which also emulates a vintage aesthetic. Traditional rubber outsoles and striping decorate the rim for a cohesive look. We suggest purchasing a half size down as Converse sneakers are known for running a little large compared to other sneakers. The sneaker continues to grow in popularity as its diverse style fits not only sneaker enthusiasts but fashion aficionados, casual wearers, and long time Converse supporters.
