Air Jordan 1
‘Dark Marina Blue’
When legendary NBA basketball player Michael Jordan was a rookie, he signed with Nike to instill what we all know now as the legendary Jordan Brand. At the end of Michael Jordan’s rookie year with the Chicago Bulls, the first sneaker of the iconic Jordan line was introduced to the world—the Air Jordan 1. In 1985 Michael Jordan took to the court wearing a pair of Nike Air Ships because the Air Jordan 1 wasn’t finalized. Boasting a bold red and black hue, the sneakers immediately gained a notable reputation. Michael Jordan received a stern letter from the NBA letting him know that he had violated the league’s uniform guidelines. Nike took this concept and ran with it, resulting in what we now know as the signature ‘Banned colorway. As the predecessor for a line of sneakers that would completely change the world of sneakers, the Air Jordan 1 maintains its timeless design, making it one of the most sought-after sneakers to date.
Created by sneaker designer Peter Moore who is well-known for crafting iconic Nike footwear such as the Air Force 1, Dunk, Air Ship, and Nike Vandal, the Air Jordan 1 redefined the style of basketball. This design was the first of many collaborations between athletes and sneaker brands. When Michael Jordan broke the league’s rules with the Air Jordan 1’s bright colors, the imagination of fans worldwide was captured. The Air Jordan 1started it all, representing a concept of youth counter-culture that is still prevalent today. As a sneaker that launched Nike’s long road of storytelling through sneakers, the specific silhouette has gone through a tumultuous lifetime, being adopted by different cultures throughout each generation. The Air Jordan 1 has received thousands of colorway treatments, some of the most notable being “Banned,” “Chicago,” “Royal,” “Black Toe,” “Shadow,” and “Carolina Blue.”
The Jordan Brand continues the legacy of the Air Jordan 1 in its latest rendition in ‘Dark Marina Blue.’ With signature styling and historical lineage in mind, this crisp design embodies the classic Air Jordan 1 retro makeup with a new twist. Offered in family sizing, the design is placed upon a clean White midsole. The smooth Black leather underlays pave the way for premium Dark Marina Blue leather overlays, eyestays, and the ever-classic Swoosh. A classic debossed Air Jordan Wings motif is placed at the collar, while Nike branding can be seen at the tongue. The classic Nike Air cushioning and perforated toe box offer a comfortable experience, intertwined with the durable rubber outsole for a completed finish.
