Air Jordan 14 x CLOT ‘Terracotta’ Releasing February 11th
Chelsie Rendon
Nike has joined forces with fashion-label CLOT once again in their latest rendition of the Air Jordan 14. Within their long-lasting relationship, they were able to curate a collection of exclusive designs utilizing both aesthetics. Nicknamed, ‘Terracotta’ the newest silhouette is a sequel to its predecessor that launched in 2018. The colorway was originally introduced on an Air Jordan 13 Low, which was also the last time the brands launched a collaboration together.
CLOT is a fashion label that bridges the gap between the East and the West. Founder and designer, Edison Chen, wants CLOT to be a movement as he utilizes his heritage and Chinese background within his creations. Since 2003, the fashion label has worked with renowned companies such as Stussy, Disney, and Medicom Toy. Their wide range of products and designs are feverishly sought after as they have a worldwide presence. In 2006, Nike was interested in the culture CLOT utilizes within their designs and brand. Since then, the duo started working together and began bridging the sneaker cultures of the East and West.
Utilizing a sepia tone color palette, the Air Jordan 14 draws inspiration from Terracotta Warrior Statues of the Shaanxi Province in China. The rugged architecture of the upper resembles the warrior’s intricate and heavy-duty armor. A pattern can be found within the dots signifying 2 and 3, paying tribute to Michael Jordan’s basketball number. Sticking to Eastern culture, the tongue is designed to resemble a long Chinese scroll while the heel contains a Pan Chang knot and coin; this hangs off the heel symbolizing prosperity and happiness within Chinese heritage. A suede toe cap decorates the shoe along with traditional Jumpman branding which includes its seamless Ferrari symbol. A gold rubber highlights its outer sole, elevating its design. Nike’s Zoom Air Phylon foam insoles are integrated within providing a comfortable experience during times of wear. The sneaker grows in popularity as it introduces Chinese culture within the sneakers industry.
