Air Jordan 6 ‘Carmine’ Releases on February 13th

Chelsie Rendon

Upon its debut, the Air Jordan 6 became an instant favorite as Michael Jordan wore this model during his first NBA Championship. Though he didn’t wear the ‘Carmine’ colorway when receiving this title, he did introduce it to the market during his 1991-92 season. This color palette stood out against the court as it took the main Chicago Bull’s colors but made it more intense with a sensual red. The first time Nike brought it back was in 2008 part of a limited series release then again in 2014 as a standalone. As we celebrate its 30 year anniversary, Nike has reintroduced the famed ‘Carmine’ colorway once again within its Air Jordan 6 Retro model - a perfect colorway to celebrate Valentines. With this great milestone, the Retro version will retain all of the original detailing that hasn’t been seen since its initial release in 1991.

The Air Jordan 6 will be compromised of traditional materials, shapes, and technologies seen within its parent design. These attributes include perforated holes detailing the collar and its signature color block side panels. Smooth leather constructs the upper; championing the red hue while white leather overlays adds a contrasting element. Nylon fabrication can be seen on the tongue with a smooth composition that shines with the light, making the iconic Jumpman logo stand out. Its traditional collar height can be seen among the revival along with an adjustable lace lock providing security and ease. Translucent rubber decorates the outsole while protecting its inner Air technology, supplying comfortable cushioning during times of wear.

In order to grow into its own entity, Michael Jordan started branching into his own brand therefore the 6 was the last model to champion any Nike logos. Moving forth, the heel embroidery has disappeared in future renditions. To pay homage to the original, the latest release will consist of the original stitching along the heel highlighting ‘Nike Air.’ This unique trait is one of a kind as it hasn’t been seen since its initial launch in 1991, making it a detail that sneaker enthusiast and basketball fans will look forward to. The feeling of nostalgia that is presented within these sneakers contributes to its desirable nature, making it a silhouette you don’t want to miss.
