MAISON MIHARA YASUHIRA

Maison Mihara Yasuhiro breaks the mold of footwear as the brand has introduced innovative and modernist visions onto closet classics. The namesake was developed by Maison Yasuhiro in 1997 after graduating from Tama Art University. Prior to attending the school, he found himself encapsulated with footwear and the recreation of popular silhouettes. He even applied for a part-time position in a shoe factory to further educate himself on the process. In hopes to start building his name, he created his first label titled ‘archi doom’ in 1994 while balancing his time with the shoe factory and the demands of college. Though it had traction, it eventually met its demise. But as one door closes another opened for Mihara Yasuhiro as he would then create the label we know today. 

Yasuhiro has become a fashion veteran as he has extended his umbrella to clothing and collaborations. Some of the most popular names we’ve seen with Mihara include Puna, Atmos LAB, Coca-Cola, and Fila. Many of the projects introduce bold and ready-to-wear styles of the classic Mihara footwear that we love and recently, Maison Mihara Yasuhiro has introduced their Autumn/Winter footwear collection to the public which includes bold prints on signature footwear models. The Baker Low is a staple design that is re-introduced with geometric overlays and traditional color schemes. Showcased in red and black, the sneaker features the classic exaggerated outsole and a canvas cotton upper. Yasuhiro’s irregular qualities can be seen at the outsole as premium post-dye treatments are hand crafted for a more distressed and worn-in look. 

Each design is heavily inspired by Western culture and contemporary artistry. The Peterson Low also pays homage to mainstream designs but the latest arrivals include Maison Mihara’s unconventional aesthetic. Featured in a Dalmation and Leopard print, the sneaker’s bold design is made apparent with a calf hair upper. Following the animal theme, the hairy base provides texture and dimension all while contrasting typical fashion standards. Vintage and distressed elements are absent on the Peterson but the bold and thick rubber outsole is heavily present for a durable finish. The animal theme and clean details seen on the Peterson are also transferred onto the Baker Low, providing options to the newest designs.
