Air Jordan 1 'Black and Lucky Green’ Release April 15th

Air Jordan 1 'Black and Lucky Green’ Release April 15th

Haven Neiman

Michael Jordan made waves in the worlds of sport and fashion when he signed with Nike during his rookie season playing for the Chicago Bulls in the NBA. He was the first basketball player to sign with the athleisure label officially. Joining the Nike umbrella introduced a new type of basketball sneaker style that incorporated bright colors that contrasted with previous NBA-approved basketball silhouettes. At the time, Nike was relatively unknown in basketball, and Michael Jordan was a crucial component in the brand making a name for itself in the professional basketball territory.

The Air Jordan 1 was highly regarded for its use of bright colors and high-quality materials, such as premium leather. Air-Sole cushioning technology was also a vital component of the shoe. The design reflected Michael Jordan’s unique personality and playing style, as seen in his jersey number, signature, and iconic Jordan Wings logo. Inspired by Michael Jordan’s on-court performance and his ‘flying’ above his opponents, the Jordan Wings logo was also designed by Peter Moore in addition to the ‘Jumpman’ logo introduced later on. Some iconic Air Jordan 1 colorways are ‘Bred,’ ‘Chicago,’ ‘True Blue,’ ‘Royal,’ ‘Shattered Backboard,’ and more.

The Air Jordan line is now re-introducing the iconic ‘Lucky Green’ colorway in the Air Jordan 1’s latest release. Nearly every Air Jordan 1 release has a background story about a memorable moment in Michael Jordan’s career. The ‘Lucky Green’ goes back to 1986, when Michael Jordan made 63 points against the Boston Celtics during the NBA Playoffs. The Boston Celtics’ colors are white and green, which inspired this unique colorway. This year’s ‘Lucky Green’ model differs slightly from the 2020 version, which can be seen on the Nike Air label on the tongue and the heel, which allows the ‘Lucky Green’ hue to speak for itself. Releasing in a full family sizing range, the sneaker utilizes a premium leather construction with additional leather overlays. Jordan Wings branding can be found at the side, while a perforated toe box offers a breathable touch.
