The fashion world was forever changed when Michael Jordan signed with Nike before his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls started. He was the first basketball player to sign with the young-then athleisure label. By joining the Nike umbrella, a new sneaker style for basketball was introduced into the world that utilized bright colors that contrasted with the everyday NBA-approved monochromatic basketball sneakers. During the ‘80s, Nike was relatively unknown in basketball. Michael Jordan was the key to the brand tapping into this new world, as he helped make the brand a household name in basketball and fashion.

Designed by Peter Moore, when the Air Jordan 1 sneaker was introduced as the “one that started it all” when it came to the iconic Air Jordan sneaker line, it was highly appreciated for its use of bright colors and high-quality materials like leather that encompassed the upper. The signature Air-Sole cushioning technology was a vital component of the shoe. The Air Jordan 1’s structure was inspired by Michael Jordan’s unique personality and playing style, which can be found through his signature Jordan Wings logo. This iconic logo was inspired by Michael’s on-court performances and tendency to fly above his opponents.

The Air Jordan line introduces a premium rendition of its iconic Air Jordan 1 in ‘Black and Smoke Grey.’ This premium silhouette features a luxurious suede upper that pairs seamlessly with the leather underlays. A woven Nike Air tongue label is seen, matching the graphic insole. Perforations can be found at the toe box, while the Jordan Wings logo at the ankle makes an impression. A signature Air-Sole unit is placed at the midsole, while the aged rubber outsole supports the entirety of the look.
