Air Jordan 3 'White Cement Reimagined' Release March 11th

Haven Neiman

A never-ending footwear legacy was formed in 1984 when a young Michael Jordan hesitantly signed with Nike on a footwear deal. Having grown into the Air Jordan + Jordan Brand line, the young rookie was among the first to sign on with a brand as an athlete.

Among the Air Jordan line, the Air Jordan 3 was the third sneaker model in this iconic line and is still considered one of the most popular Air Jordan models to this day. Setting a new standard for fashion and technology combined with elevation and style, the Air Jordan 3 contrasts itself from the other Air Jordan sneakers as it does not feature a large Swoosh at the side panels; only a large Nike Air logo at the rear and a signature Jumpman logo on the tongue. This sneaker is also revered for its iconic elephant-like print at the upper and the visible Air unit underneath the heel.

Designed by Tinker Hatfield, who is also known for creating the Air Max 1 and Air Trainer 1, he spoke with Michael Jordan before he created the Air Jordan 3 to gather his thoughts and perspective on what he wanted out of the next Jordan sneaker. Michael Jordan requested something with a mid-cut height instead of the standard high-top shoe. He wanted the shoe to be comfortable and easily broken in, all while taking on a sophisticated aesthetic.

With that, the Air Jordan 3 legacy continues by re-releasing one of the most coveted Air Jordan sneaker colorways ever. Releasing in a full family-size range, this design honors a 35-year legacy. The Air Jordan 3 ‘White Cement Reimagined’ takes ‘White Cement’ and turns it into a redefinition of timelessness, all while incorporating a vintage aesthetic. Built to the 1988 specs, this re-release takes on a crisp leather upper paired with elephant print overlays at the heel and toe. A Jumpman logo can be seen on the tongue, while the Nike Air logo resides at the back heel tab. A visible Air unit provides optimal lightweight cushioning. The hint of yellowing at the midsole and rubber outsole ties together the remainder of the design.
