In 1990, the Air Jordan 5 made its debut in a collection of four staple colorways; three OG colorways and one player exclusive. ‘Metallic Silver,’ ‘New Emerald’ and ‘White/Fire Red-Black’ were the three OG colors with a ‘White/Black - Fire Red’ color as the player exclusive.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Jordan 5 continues the celebration with an all-new colorway, or composition of colors, rather, to decorate the shoe’s uppers. All Iconic in their own right, the fabled silhouette becomes a palette for retro colorways such as the ‘Raging Bull,’ ‘Tokyo,’ and ‘Green Bean,’ to name a few. Combining all of these retros, the ‘What The’ motif takes a go and decorates the left and right shoes respectively with familiar colors and details.

Done originally on the Nike SB Dunk Low in 2007, the ‘What The Dunks’ have become one of the most iconic shoes that pioneered the combination of colorways. Since then, the motif has seen the opportunity to transition into the world of basketball by spreading its influence to Kobe, LeBron, and Kevin Durant’s signature sneakers. More recently, Air Jordans have joined the roster and added the Air Jordan 5 in the spotlight.

Originally dropped in a 2-pack in 2009, the popular red ‘Raging Bull’ colorway stands out at first glance. The deep red suede color blocking takes over the left of the shoe, while the Japanese-excusive, yellow ‘Tokyo’ colorway inhabits the right. The chaotic juxtaposition of colors is now synonymous with the “What The” series, with each iteration unifying the iconic colorways of the respective model.
