Josue Thomas’ iconic streetwear label began over 5 years ago in 2017. The artist and designer never formally studied fashion or garment making but credits his natural skills to his immigrant parents who had worked to build their lives in Los Angeles. Having always had a lifelong passion for clothing, Josue Thomas’ journey began with working in clothing stores in his early 20s and then began experimenting with cutting jeans, screen-printing t-shirts, and repurposing garments. Officially established in 2017, Gallery Dept., which is inspired by the concept of gallery art departments, has grown from just an underground collector label to a full-fledged easily-identifiable streetwear label worn by countless celebrities and fashion enthusiasts alike.
One of the brand’s latest arrivals includes the Gallery Dept. Weed Tee. Cut from cotton, the must-have tree has been entirely cut and washed in Los Angeles and made for a comfortable oversized fit. The design is treated with a crew neckline, but its primary spotlight is the all-over tie-dye wash that offers a distinct aesthetic. Hand-applied distressing is seen subtly at the trims, while the screen-printed graphics at the front and rear wrap up the remainder of the silhouette. Gallery Dept.'s latest arrivals also include something more simple, such as the Gallery Dept. Vintage Souvenir Tee is also cut entirely from cotton and implements a boxy-like fit with ribbed detailing seen at the neckline. Screen-printed Gallery Dept. branding makes an impression at the front and rear. The design is also cut and washed in Los Angeles, further adding an additional dimension to the overall design.
Now is the perfect time to begin incorporating denim into any wardrobe. Cut from cotton, the Gallery Dept. Indiana Flare takes a pair of vintage Levi 501s that are re-cut for a slimmer fit and wider leg opening. Each pair is treated with unique techniques such as reinforced rips and paint/bleach splattering. A brand label resides at the rear, while the five-pocket design provides a functional aesthetic to the overall design. The scattered distressing rounds out the look.
