New Puma x Rhuigi Arrivals: "New York City Worldwide"

Haven Neiman

Rudolf Hassler first brought the German-based sportswear label Puma into the world in the mid-1900s. Puma is highly revered for its premium sneakers and apparel, spotlighting iconic Puma brandings like the Puma Cat and Puma Formstrip. The brand remains at the forefront of the fashion and lifestyle industry. Puma has also expanded into sportswear and elevated athleisure apparel like hoodies, leggings, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and more. Over the years, Puma has also gained massive popularity for collaborating with renowned designers and brands like Dua Lipa, TMC, Liberty, AMI, and most recently, Rhuigi Villaseñor.

Born in the Philippines and raised in the United States, Rhuigi Villaseñor was always interested in fashion and clothing design. He credits his mother, a tailor, for his early understanding of garments and construction. Rhuigi had no formal training and is now known for his groundbreaking luxury menswear label Rhude, which is his commentary on Los Angeles’ style and culture.

Puma and Rhude have collaborated since 2018, but 2022 marked the first year for Puma and solely Rhuigi to collaborate. Puma and Rhuigi introduce the latest drop of their ongoing ‘New York City Worldwide’ collection. This collaborative apparel, accessory, and footwear capsule reinterprets Puma classics in a tribute to New York City, the city that has shaped youth culture like none other.

This latest drop celebrates New York basketball's past and present with offerings decked out with classic plaids and court-inspired details. The apparel in this drop is complemented by a mid-cut Puma Clyde. Available in Black and White, the Puma x Rhuigi Graphic Tees take on a vintage-inspired basketball aesthetic. Using a cotton and polyester blend, the silhouettes include a crew neckline that contrasts against the tee. Screen-printed branded graphics paired with embroidered imagery make an impression. The collaborative woven labels tie together the look. Paired perfectly with the t-shirts are the Puma x Rhuigi Basketball Shorts. Composed of cotton and polyester, the Black and White shorts utilize an elastic drawstring waistband, side pockets, and a rear pocket. Embroidered branding resides at the front, while the embroidered woven labels wrap up the rest of the silhouette.

The final item in this new Puma x Rhuigi drop is the Puma x Rhuigi Clyde Mid Basketball. Taking on a leather upper with additional cracked leather detailing, the design is secured by its lace-up front and spotlighted by an array of Puma x Rhuigi branding and woven tongue label. The foam midsole and rubber outsole support the remainder of the sneaker.
