Nike partners with Queens native Gabrielle Serrano for a special rendition of the classic Air Max 98, inspired by New York City ($200). In 2018, Nike invited locals of New York City, London, Paris, Seoul, Shanghai, and Tokyo to design their own Nike Air Max. From these “On Air” workshops 18 were chosen based on the creative execution of their work, the public then voted on six winners, one per city, Gabrielle Serrano represents NYC. The model features a gradient pattern that starts at white at the toe before transitioning to tan, brown and black towards the heel. The gradient pattern is symbolic of the diversity of the city, where many different races, ethnicities and backgrounds come together to form NYC's culture. Mismatching laces and a textured mudguard reminiscent of the concrete sidewalks of the city round out the look.
