Premium Techniques with Brain Dead Summer ‘21

Chelsie Rendon

A collective created by varying artists, Brain Dead teeters between traditional streetwear and contemporary aesthetics offering unique collections each season. First launched in 2014, the label has continued to push the boundaries and highlight intricate artistry upon premium-made garments. Drawing inspiration from subcultures from California, Brain Dead dials in on post-punk and skateboarding apparel that can be implemented into everyday wear. This thought process is translated into their latest Summer collection which can easily transition between hot days and cool summer nights. Reverting to their roots, the delivery reimagines signature pieces with an emphasis on physical and visual texture for a new way to experience their clothing. New iterations of beloved pieces find heavyweight finishes and cut and sew techniques; elevating its overall stature.

The summer delivery balances premium construction with casual wear; the Heavyweight Jersey Mockneck Pocket Shirt is a great example of a reimagined design that can be worn every day. Made with heavyweight jersey cotton, the tee draws emphasis on its quality fit. Its durability is the main focal point while minimal branding including a PVC logo patch and pocket decorates the chest. Brain Dead’s attention to detail can also be seen upon the Running Head Textured Stripe Shirt. Details made out of towel terry accents the base creating a textured experience unseen within their repertoire. Bold graphics make their appearance on a wide range of clothing as seen on the Bubblegum Shorty Long Sleeve, Running Fades Hoodie, and the Friday Night Kisses T-Shirt.

Cut and sew techniques are also of high importance within the capsule. The fashion label debuts unique developments that differ from traditional designs; the Organic Paneled Stripe Shirt is a prime example of this process. This can also be seen upon the Jacquard Collar Paneled Bodysuit, a design that marks Brain Dead’s first-ever women’s line. Though their designs are tailored for both genders, they hone in on specific designs for women that incorporate their eccentric aesthetic. Lastly, the collection also includes comfortable pieces with elevated fabrication. The Wild Things Pajama Set is compromised of breathable cotton poplin while the Reverse Fleece Crewneck and Sweatpant are designed with a soft complexion.
