The North Face Fall '23
Alex Kure
Founded in 1966 by Douglas Tompkins in San Francisco, California, The North Face initially focused on designing and manufacturing mountaineering equipment for serious climbers with its small mountaineering retail store. In 1977, An effort to keep skiers warm in the harshest conditions led to the introduction of GORE-TEX® products in The North Face outerwear line: the first dry, breathable and truly all-condition gear. From there, the brand introduced one of its most iconic silhouettes, the Retro Nuptse Jacket. What once was a brand aimed toward climbers and austere outdoor enthusiasts became a household name for all outerwear needs. The North Face has transformed into a globally-recognized brand, offering a wide range of outdoor apparel and products, all while focusing on sustainability, social responsibility, and outdoor advocacy efforts.
The North Face debuts its Fall 2023 collection, which delves in to urban exploration and aims to reshape the traditions of urban fashion through the lens of exploration. This installment takes inspiration from the pinnacle of exploration and mountaineering, the timeless offering looks to the future and builds on innovation while paying homage to history in the outdoors. The collection features a variety of new and classic designs that reimagine outerwear with layering essentials.
Pictured below is the 1996 Nuptse Dip Dye Jacket, one of the most recognizable silhouettes from the brand. The jacket offers a customizable fit with a three-piece hood and adjustable drawcord. Crafted from recycled materials with a durable water-repellent finish, this jacket combines sustainability with performance.
