Founded in 1966 by brothers Paul Van Doren and Jim Van Doren, Vans was launched in Southern California inspired by West Coast culture and the skateboarding lifestyle. Shortly after the launch of Vans, skateboarders started to take notice of the footwear brand and was drawn to the shoes sticky sole and simple style, perfect for skating. Skateboard legends Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta took notice of the brand and invented the Era silhouette in the mid-70s which was designed for the skateboarding culture, with a padded collar and a handful of different color combinations. Since then, the Vans brand has solidified itself in the industry as the go-to skating shoe. 

In 2003, Vans officially launched the Vault by Vans line, which continues to offer classic Vans style inspired by contemporary street fashion, art, music and surf + skate culture. More than fifty years ago, Vans made a shoe that drew attention from all over the world and that became a symbol of self-expression. The Vault by Vans line celebrates this history and the legacy of the iconic brand through different designs and collaborations.
