Women’s Air Jordan 5

‘Bluebird’

The Air Jordan 5’s origin and continuation over the past 30 years prove how its timeless silhouette establishes the essence of sneakers’ impact in pop culture. In the 1989-1990 NBA season, Michael Jordan hit 97 three-pointers while wearing a pair of Air Jordan 5s. This was not just a mere stepping stone in Jordan’s career because, in prior seasons, the hooper had only hit 68 threes in all previous seasons combined. Before this accomplishment, American sneaker designer Tinker Hatfield was inspired by Michael Jordan’s aggressive and iconic on-court style, which created the iconic Air Jordan 5. The sneaker’s silhouette’s main inspiration was from the World War II-era fighter planes, which involved an aggressive paint job compared to a shark. These shark-like details would end up being passed down to the silhouette of the Air Jordan 5, hence the zig-zagging tooth-like midsole detailing. This sneaker served as a vessel for Jordan’s strong attacks on the court.

The first four colorways of the Air Jordan 5 began releasing in February of 1990, including white/black, black/metallic, white/fire red, and white/grape. These colorways varied in styles, including low tops, hybrids, and notable collaborations. When the hit TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was on the air, Will Smith’s character coveted the Air Jordan 5 in various colorways. With that, the well-known and highly sought out ‘Grape’ colorway was released September of 2018, just in time for Will Smith’s birthday. Other notable colorways include Laney, Green Bean, Wolf Grey, and Raging Bull. The sneaker’s silhouette represents a hallmark of early 90s fashion and continues to maintain a vital role in pop culture.

Engineered from the shark tooth sole to its reflective tongue, the latest Air Jordan 5 model is sported for women in a unique ‘Bluebird’ colorway. The iconic signature profile features genuine leather elements and a comfortable fabric sleeve that provides a snug and secure fit. Straying away from traditional leather uppers, the Blue Graphite suede upper is introduced, which provides a sleek look, while the icy outsole highlights the silhouette. And, of course, the zig-zagging tooth-like midsole detailing provides a gentle nod to the original sneaker model. This upcoming release’s laces and Jumpman logo include that same Blue Graphic hue. Metal Silver graces those shark-like midsole spikes and heel molds.
